Ticket Sales Coordinator

Laugh Factory

Mar 2002 - Jun 2005 · 3 yrs 4 mos

New York, NY

  • Implemented gorilla marketing tactics such as going around to universities in the Northeastern US to sell tickets to the comedy club in Times Square, NY.

  • I would go online first and find the largest lecture halls, the ones that fit hundreds of students and then when classes were scheduled.

  • I would then show up before the professor was finished setting up and explain that I was with "Special Events" and ask if I could make an announcement.

  • The professors didn't usually ask any questions, just waved me over to the podium but sometimes they'd even hand me their microphone. Once I got the green light, I'd get on stage and give a three minute presentation about how awesome the comedy club is and how we had discounted tickets for sale, I'd make a few jokes and often engage the professor in the presentation.

  • After my pitch was done and I had the students excited about the idea of going, I'd close by asking "Who wants to go?" and raise my hand. That's when dozens of students would raise their hands and I'd get off the stage and walk around collecting money, handing out tickets. Students as far as Boston would buy tickets to a show because in their mind, they saw it as a reason to take a trip to NYC.

  • This job required a great deal of planning, research and a bit of courage but I learned that when done right, these outside the box tactics where tremendously effective for generating sales and income.
